Refine Solutions

The next step is to determine what to do with the identified strategies. Refining solutions takes into account the performance trade-offs for each strategy as well as community engagement that has helped to shape the potential solution.

Refining solutions considers data analysis and technical expertise, the return on investment, and incremental investments. This also includes evaluating performance metrics and the solution that closes the performance gaps. This phase involves multidisciplinary and multi‑organizational engagement.

Refining solutions applies to certain performance measures and metrics, as summarized in the linked tables below. Note that refining solutions is an important step for solutions beyond those focused on mobility and economic vitality. Additional performance measures and metrics will be developed to evaluate how WSDOT projects advance WSDOT’s goals around the environment, preservation, safety, and stewardship.
