Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software allows analysts to evaluate existing conditions and investment alternatives using a spatial lens and to display their findings in maps. GIS can be used to measure many of the performance measures in the Practical Solutions Performance Framework. Stand-alone GIS approaches are particularly relevant for:
- Projects where spatial data is already being collected and evaluated
- Performance measures that the Cube Access tool is not set up to calculate
- Performance measures that require spatial analysis beyond what can be calculated with a spreadsheet
WSDOT has an extensive library of GIS data and resources for analysts working with GIS, including:
- The WSDOT GeoData Distribution Catalog, a centralized distribution site for GIS data developed by WSDOT
- The WSDOT Geospatial Open Data Portal, which allows users to explore and download WSDOT spatial data and access maps
- The WSDOT Online Map Center, an interactive mapping site that provides access to WSDOT transportation data and interactive maps
